Unfortunately, as a result of flood damage in recent months, scheduled runs in September and October have been canceled due to the disruption of the railway line.

All aboard the Treno di Dante for a day full of exploring. The ride starts at Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station and visitors are onboard the train for a total of three hours, breaking up the journey by stopping at six towns along the way towards the Apennines. Only on Saturdays and Sundays visitors can take the heritage train from Florence to Ravenna stopping at the “Most beautiful villages in Italy” to experience culture, museums and tasteful new cuisine while viewing the beautiful countryside. Pay an extra for organized excursions or walk around the village on your own to experience everything the villages have to offer.

THE STOPS:

1. Renowned for the highest concentration of works of art in the world, Florence marks the beginning of this journey in stages across the Apennines to Ravenna.

2. Under the House of Hapsburg-Lorraine in Tuscany, Borgo San Lorenzo became the most important centre in the whole Mugello area. The town is ideal for nature lovers.

3. Also known as “Castle”, Marradi is a popular place of rest for wayfarers and two walks are particularly worthy: from the town centre to the Rocca di Castiglionchio and to the Hermitage of Gamogna, an old monastic complex founded by San Pier Damiani in 1053.

4. Brisighella is a lively town, steeped in tradition and with some incredibly architecture and scenery: ancient narrow streets, sections of the town’s walls and staircases carved out of gypsum.

5. Faenza’s history has always been inextricably linked to its ceramics, especially majolica
(it is home to one of the most important ceramics museums in the world!). Founded by the
Romans, the city – so close to the Appennine foothills – became an important centre of Neoclassicism in Europe.

6. Three times capital (namely: Western Roman Empire, Ostrogothic Kingdom and Byzantine Exarchate), Ravenna is a short distance from the Adriatic Sea and has 8 monuments which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Dante Alighieri was buried here after spending the last three years of his life, from 1318 to 1321, and this is the final
destination of the Treno di Dante.
