Oscar Ghiglia: Italian Portraits and Still Lifes

Oscar Ghiglia was a great 20th-century Italian artist with Tuscan roots, profoundly linked to the European artistic events of his time. The exhibition at Palazzo Medici Riccardi showcases over fifty of his works from prestigious private collections and important public museums – including the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Palazzo Pitti – presented in a way that interweaves themes and chronologies.

Ghiglia also displays an influence of Magic Realism around which many artists gathered in the 1920s. His research into objects and forms is sharp but enigmatic, perfect but unresolved, and still enchants us today.
