Luca Giordano: A Florentine Baroque Master

Categories

“An amazing painter, made by God to please princes”: that’s how Granduca Cosimo III de’ Medici defined Luca Giordano, one of the most virtuous and prolific artists of Italian Baroque.

The painter left testimony of his works in the vaults he frescoed for the Galleria degli Specchi and the Biblioteca Riccardiana inside Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the first large residence of Medici family, then acquired by the Riccardi family in the mid-17th century.

The exhibition focuses on the relationship between the Neapolitan artist and the greatest Florentine families he worked for, featuring a selection of nearly 50 masterpieces, some of which belong to the National Gallery and other Italian museums such as the Uffizi Gallery, as well as to private collections not from Florence.
