Undisputed master of 20th-century art, Fortunato Depero is the protagonist of the fall exhibition at Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
The exhibition retraces some of the themes that characterized Depero’s production to highlight the connection of his figure and work with the Florentine territory. The project takes its cue from the presence in the Museo Novecento’s collections of “Nitrito in velocità” (1932), a masterpiece by the artist that is part of the civic collections. The painting was donated by the naval engineer Alberto Della Ragione to the City of Florence in the aftermath of the terrible flood of 1966, along with more than 240 works from his famous collection. A work that combined the popular element with a fervid figurative imagination, themes of the contemporary with traditional motifs such as the horse. Great prominence will be given to the practice of drawing and its declinations, as well as to the complex relationship that has always linked the city of Florence to the arts, as well as to that of works on fabric, such as the splendid tapestries of which some large specimens such as “Cavalcata Fantastica” and “Due Maschere Tropicali” will be presented in the exhibition.
