Corpo di Donna: The Sweetness of the Female Body

The exhibition Corpo di Donna (“Female Body”) at the Crumb Gallery features a selection of beautiful nude photographs by the recently passed, great Italian photographer Letizia Battaglia.

In addition to the harsh reportages of the underworld in Palermo in the 1970s and 1980s, Battaglia always documented the life of ordinary people, in the streets, in miserable houses, in workplaces, in markets, focusing in each situation on the human movements, the expression of the eyes, in particular of women and girls.

In this exhibition is narrated “the grandeur, beauty and sweetness of the female body”, as the photographer herself describes. “Not sexy or in model poses (…) and with solidarity and respect. Photography is a wonderful act, like making love. But with rigour and without vanity.”
